Pilgrimage

What is a pilgrimage?

A pilgrimage is a religious journey when people visit sacred places, be it a building, a sculpture or a special place. A pilgrimage can also be a spiritual one.

Who goes on a pilgrimage?

Pilgrims of all religions go on pilgrimages. Many call pilgrims tourists but, in fact, they are completely different things. Why not learn more about pilgrimage in this article and then see what you think is the difference between pilgrims and tourists?

People of all faiths can go on pilgrimage. For Muslims it is one of the five pillars (which encourages them to live an Islamic life in full). There is no single place to visit when going on pilgrimage. There are many creeds and a number of sacred places that people visit.

Why go on pilgrimage?

Pilgrims go on pilgrimages for many reasons. Some religions encourage people to go on pilgrimage in order to express their faith. Some go on pilgrimage to try to be cured if they are sick. Pilgrims often go on pilgrimage to learn more about their religious faith.
